February 26, 2008 The Life of a Cat Sometimes, I wish I had the life of a cat. We have had two cats during our marriage. Actually, Laura had one of the cats before we got married, so I knew even before our wedding that we would have a cat. Our cats have lived quite good lives. They get to roam the house whenever they want to. They get fed regularly, without having to hunt for their food. Unless it is to hunt for us to let us know that they are hungry. And most of the time they can get all the attention they want, which is usually not very much. Cats have the general reputation of being night animals, prowling around outside after dark. However, since our cats are inside cats, they are usually pretty good at sleeping all night. But not always. One night not too long after we got married, we were awakened by a noise. I went into the den, and there was our cat, sitting on the couch next to the remote control, with the TV playing away. I know we turned the TV off before we went to bed, but I guess she wanted to watch some more. Her plan was foiled, because I turned the TV off and went back to bed. So if she turned on the TV after that, she made sure to keep the volume down. And even though our cats sleep most all night, I think they sleep most of the day as well. There are days when they are in the exact same place when we get home at night as they were when we left in the morning. Now maybe they like to play tricks on us, but in most cases I think they get warm and decide not to move from those places. ![]() Some days, it sure does seem like it would be nice to just lie around all day. Have someone bring you food when it is time to eat. Get a little activity when you want it. But generally just lie around and not do much of anything. No responsibilities. No problems. Must be nice. But I suppose that must be my lazy side talking. There really is more to life than just napping at all hours of the day. And when I get up to do something, it is usually fun, or at least rewarding in some small way. So although lying around looks like it could be nice for a while, I have to remember that I have a purpose in life, and I better make sure I live up to it. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. - Galatians 6:9 |
